On Thursday, July 23, Salem members Steve Heggestad and Ron DeJong set the base for the new Salem sign. Steve made the wooden frame which needed to have four support bolts in exactly the right locations to fit the metal foot of the sign stand. The night before, he and Ron dug the holes with Steve's tractor using a three-point-hitch auger, and laid the metal rebar to keep the concrete from cracking.
Steve and Ron carefully guided the cement from the truck into the wooden form and worked it with a board and trowel until it looked like a freshly poured section of downtown sidewalk. Thank you Steve and Ron for your help with this project.
The next step is to attach the metal stand to the bolts, which will take place hopefully sometime next week.
