After a year of planning and raising the money, the new Salem sign is ready to go up in July. Thank you to Steve Heggestad for his work on the project through DC Signs, and to Ally Buseman for her help with the design and the best way to do the ELCA logo.
Note that the photo of the 'new sign' is computer-generated, so you can't drive by to look at it yet. The new sign will be double-sided, lighted, and has spaces for rows of 4" letters or numbers to customize the information and messages throughout the year. This will greatly enhance our ability to make use of this prime location to advertize worship times, events, as well as provide messages to the community.
To benefit traffic sightlines, the new sign will be a few feet closer to the building, which can be seen in the photo with the red paint on the grass. The cross attached to the old sign was given in memory of O. Raymond Swanson in 1985 and will be moved to another location on the property where it can be seen and appreciated. The planting area should be good for continued use once the old sign foundation is fully removed.
Thank you to those who made donations toward this project, and for the support and encouragement of Salem members to bring this project to completion.
