Well before my time at Salem, a scale model of the old Strombeck Church was designed and built by Earl and Lavonne Schultz. Because few photos of the church were ever taken, Lavonne designed the model from memories of her childhood growing up at Strombeck, and her husband, Earl, who had never seen the church, built the model. This model has been in storage for many years upstairs at Salem, and recently the family of Lavonne and Earl decided to create a special display case for it in their memory.
This display case is on wheels, and the LED lighting is powered by a 12 volt rechargeable battery. For now, it was decided to put the display case in the front entry.
Thank you to Ron Schultz and Diane and Tom Ellingboe for taking the time to design and build this beautiful case so that we can be reminded of Salem's heritage and founders.
Strombeck Lutheran Church was founded on November 1, 1873. We will have a dedication for the model on November 7th of this year, along with a re-dedication of the Salem Carillon, which is only a few weeks away. This model will also provide a wonderful visual reminder of our 150th anniversary coming up in 2023!
Thanks be to God!
